Air New Zealand: It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Concierge!

Filed under: Air New Zealand — mike @ 10:47 am

You’re on vacation, sitting in your hotel room wondering what it is you should do with your time. Where should you eat? Where you should you shop? Is there something you just have to see while you’re in town? And if so, can someone show you the way? Of course, someone can. The Concierge. The Concierge is a super hero of sorts, possessing keen insight into both the surrounding area and into the guests’ needs. The Concierge will help you get the most out of your vacation.

Ahhh. If only there were concierges everywhere we went…

Well, thanks to Air New Zealand, there are now concierges in the sky. The carrier is bringing a touch of the luxury hotel to their Auckland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Hong Kong Routes. Their Concierge in the Sky service aims to provide passengers with the added attention that so many of us crave from airlines.

Keep reading for more details on this latest perk from Air New Zealand…

Air New Zealand will employ 90 concierge staff; “a combination of travel advisers, loyalty and destination experts who focus on supporting customers’ travel needs.”

Concierge service staff will escort passengers to and from the plane, will help them make onward bookings, will point out the “must-do” activities for specific destinations, and will even give you a tip as to which in-flight wine goes best with your in-flight meal.

Air New Zealand’s concierge service is the first of its kind in the commercial airline industry. The airline does service some of the longest long-haul flights in the business, so it makes sense that they would be the first to take a step forward in long-haul amenities, and if it proves a success, we could see other airlines quickly following NZ’s lead. After all, who wants to choose their own wine on the plane?
