Time Runs Out for eos: Can All-Business Class Carriers Survive?

Filed under: Business Class, eos — mike @ 8:54 am

This weekend, Joe Brancatelli of Joe Sent Me reported that eos had filed for bankruptcy and was set to take its last flight. The demise of eos, a NY-based all-business class carrier, comes on the heels of the December shut-down of MaxJet, another American all-business class airline.

So, what does this mean for all-business class carriers? UK-based Silverjet is still active, French-based L’Avion still provides “low-fare” all-business class service to Paris, and British Airways is set to launch Open Skies, it’s “premium” transatlantic airline. However, we have already seen that pressure from airlines like BA and Virgin Atlantic has raised questions about Silverjet’s ability to compete, and as the US economy struggles and fuel prices continue to rise, there is a question as to whether business class travel will be one of the first things to go for Americans heading overseas…

Luxury in a Bottle: The World’s Most Expensive Champagne

Filed under: Luxury — mike @ 3:06 pm

Sure, first class airline tickets can easily run you a few thousand dollars, but that’s nothing compared to what you can pay for first class champagne. At least if that champagne is one of the limited 12-bottle box sets of Perrier-Jouet champagne that will be available for 50,000 Euros ($79,919.59 USD).

No, the champagne doesn’t give you the power of flight, nor does it allow you to see into the future or anything like that. However, it does come with some considerable perks beyond just that of a fine champagne.

If you’re one of the 100 people lucky enough to buy one of the 12-bottle sets, you can turn your purchase into a full luxury vacation. Keep reading for the details…

How Much is Leg Room Worth?

Filed under: Luxury, jetBlue — mike @ 4:30 pm
Comments (0)

Is it worth a little extra money for the chance e to stretch out? Does added legroom in coach bring us one step closer to feeling like we’re in first class? The answer is probably “no” to the latter question, but the answer to the former is a bit more up in the air. People, especially those with long legs or a love of personal space, are more than willing to pay a little more for leg room.

As reported in the New York Times, last week “jetBlue selling optional seats with 38 inches of pitch - four inches more than its standard seats…”

Depending on the distance your flying, the extra leg room will run you between $10 and $20. Of course, jetBlue isn’t the only airline charging travelers for a little more comfort. Check out a sample of the fees you can expect to pay is you want to stretch out on the plane the next time you fly…
